Puri: An elderly devotee from Uttar Pradesh died during his visit to Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri on Tuesday.
According to sources, the devotee, identified as Rayan Prasad of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, had come along with his family members on a pilgrimage to Puri. On the day, he and his family entered Jagannath temple in the Pilgrim Town for darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadara and Devis Subhadra.
While moving around in the temple campus, 65-year-old Prasad fell down unconscious. His family members and officials of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) rushed him to the district headquarters hospital. But the doctors in the hospital declared him brought dead.
Prasad is suspected to have died of heart attack. While the police have been informed about the incident, Prasad’s family has requested to the district administration to take the body to their native place for cremation, the sources said.
It may be noted that a devotee from Rajasthan had died while having darshan of sibling deities during Snana Purnima in the town this year.
