Bhubaneswar: Devotees have expressed resentment over the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) decision to ban the Pinda Daan ritual at Bindusagar tank near the Lingaraj temple in the city.
Talking to the media on Saturday, some devotees, who came for the ritual from outside Bhubaneswar, said they had no knowledge about the “sudden restriction”.
“Police are not allowing us to perform Pinda Daan at Bindusagar. The BMC should have taken the decision much earlier and informed us,” they added.
Meanwhile, two platoons of police have been deployed near the Lingaran temple and its periphery in the Old Town area to impose the ban. Also, the entry points to Devi Padahara, Kedaragouri and Bindusagar have been sealed for the occasion.
The BMC had imposed the restriction on performing Pinda Daan at Bindusagar this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
