Bhubaneswar: DG Fire Service, CG, Home Guards and Director Civil Defence SK Upadhyaya on Friday inaugurated the Special Striking Force (SFF) which will be included in the Central Range of Odisha Fire Service in Bhubaneswar.
The Special Striking Force is an elite anti-disaster unit sanctioned for exigency purposes such as chemical disaster, cyclones, floods, highrise building rescue, earthquake and underground rescue.
The unit will be equipped with highly sophisticated apparatus like bathing suit, hydraulic device and breathing suits etc.
“So far, each Special Striking Force unit has been sanctioned with 48 highly trained officers. These people would deployed in emergency situations and it would help largely in mitigating the space crunch in the state fire services,” said Upadhyaya.
The SFF is currently operational in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Sambalpur in the state. The central range of SFF will be managed from the campus of OFDRAA, Bhubaneswar.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave the nod to SSF in August this year to develop a multi-disaster combat unit.
