Bhubaneswar: In view of Durga Puja, DGP Dr RP Sharma on Tuesday held discussions on crime and law and order situation with senior police officers of the state through video conferencing
The DGP had earlier written to all SPs, DCPs, SRP Rourkela and Cuttack to conduct special drive between October 9 and October 18 against criminals and anti-socials.
He appreciated the effort of district SPs and DCPs for smooth conduct of Ganesh Puja and the immersion ceremony. “There were some incidents and provocative acts in the past which led to law and order situation. District SPs should be very careful for this and act in advance to prevent such incidents,” he added.
The DGP said that the RSS would observe its Foundation Day throughout the state on Vijaya Dasami on October 19. “During this programme and other puja procession, mischievous elements may try to create disturbances by giving inflammatory slogans which may hurt the sentiments of some people,” he said.
He asked the SPs to remain alert in communally-sensitive places to avert any unpleasant situation. He directed them to strictly follow the MHA guidelines-2008 to maintain communal harmony.
He has also asked the SPs to take some precautionary measures well in advance to prevent any untoward situation during the festival season.
A special drive will be launched for execution of warrants, unearthing illegal fire arms, arrest of accused in pending investigation cases. Raids will be conducted against illicit distillation and sale of liquor, he said.
The DGP further asked them to put strict conditions while granting licence for ‘Medhas’ and immersion procession. All immersions should be held on a single day and adequate police arrangement made for the purpose, he added.
He instructed to impose restriction on loud speakers. The sound limit must not cross 65 decibel limit, he added.
