Dhaka: Security across Dhaka has been tightened following several crude bomb explosions and bus arson incidents in different parts of the Bangladeshi capital.
More than 200 checkpoints have been set up at key locations, including flyovers and entry points, as police conduct round-the-clock searches with particular attention on motorcycles.
Police said seven to nine cocktail explosions were reported at different locations in Dhaka on Friday. A number of passenger buses were set on fire.
Videos and images shared on social media showed the damage and destruction.

Motorcycles were reportedly used in most of the incidents, prompting police to focus on two-wheelers and their riders them during searches.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division ADC Niaz Mehedi informed that security had been strengthened on major roads, key intersections and the main entry points of the capital city.
“More than 200 checkpoints have been set up across the capital, including on the main routes into and out of Dhaka,” Mehedi said on Saturday.
He added that special drives are underway across Dhaka to ensure law and order situation was under control.
The number of police mobile, foot and motorcycle patrols has been increased significantly with teams of various security agencies being deployed to prevent major crimes and acts of sabotage.
Police have arrested 515 people in 47 cases during drives across Dhaka in the past 24 hours.
DMP also recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines, 10 rounds of ammunition, three machetes, five knives, remnants of exploded cocktails, 53 iron nails, 94.35kg of cannabis, 11,167 yaba tablets and 121.3g of heroin.
