Bargarh: Dhanu Yatra, the world’s largest open-air theatre, in western Odisha town Bargarh will take off on January 15, 2024.
The schedule of the festival was decided at a meeting chaired by district collector Monisha Banerjee in Bargarh on Wednesday.
As per schedule, the 11-day festival will begin on January 15 and continue till January 25. Senior officials of the district administration, members of the Dhanu Yatra Committee and local leaders were present in the meeting.
Dhanu Yatra is based on Krishna Leela and will showcase the mythological story of Krishna and his uncle Kansa.
During the festival, Bargarh transforms into Mathura. River Jeera symbolically represents river Yamuna and Ambapali, which is located on the other side of Jeera, turns into Gopapur.
Kansa is the central character of Dhanu Yatra and its theme is borrowed from ‘Krishna Leela’ and ‘Mathura Vijay’. A huge royal court (Raj Durbar), measuring 42 feet tall, 120 ft long and 35 feet wide, for King Kansa, as well as a Rangamahal will be constructed where the actors will stage performances.
