Chennai: After a war of words on social media over a 3-second video clip in Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary, actor-filmmaker Dhanush has now filed a case against the actress and her husband Vignesh Sivan.
The civil lawsuit against Nayanthara and Vignesh has been filed in the Madras High Court.
The lawsuit claims that the couple has used video clips from the movie ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in the documentary titled ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale’ without the consent of producer Dhanush.
According to a report in The Hindu, Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films Private Limited has not only filed a lawsuit against Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, but has also sought permission from the court to include Los Gatos Production Services India LLP in their lawsuit, the company through which Netflix reports its content investments in India.
The judge noted that Nayanthara, Vignesh Sivan, and Rowdy Pictures are based in the Madras High Court’s jurisdiction, and that most of the issue happened within the jurisdiction.
The court has ordered Nayanthara to respond to the suit by the next hearing.
The feud between Nayanthara and Dhanush started when the latter filed a Rs 10-crore copyright infringement case against the actress for using a 3-second clip from ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in her Netflix documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale.’
Slamming Dhanush, Nayanthara wrote an open letter: “What’s even more shocking is your legal notice after the release of the trailer of the Netflix Documentary. We were startled to read those lines wherein you questioned the usage of some videos (just 3 seconds) which were shot in our personal devices and that too BTS visuals that are already very much publicly present on social media and claimed a sum of Rs.10 crores as damages for the mere 3 seconds. This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans but clearly you do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner.”
She had mentioned that during the making of her Netflix documentary, she had asked for permission from Dhanush to use visuals from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.’
However, Dhanush refused to grant her permission and instead sent her a legal notice.
