Odisha’s Biggest Oil Terminal Starts Operations In Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the oil terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in Jharsuguda on Wednesday.

“The biggest oil terminal of Odisha in Jharsuguda is an important milestone for uninterrupted and automated delivery of fuel supply to as many as ten western Odisha districts like Balangir, Bargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur,
Nuapada and Sonepur,” Pradhan said.

Highlighting the Central Government’s plan to set up more oil projects in Odisha, the Union minister requested the state government to provide land required for these proposed projects.

The automated terminal has been built at a total investment of Rs 140 crore. The oil terminal has a capacity to store 49,000 kilo litre, (coverage 22 days) with 2,200 kilo litre per day sale of petrol, diesel and kerosene to cater more than 350 sale points within a radius of 550 km around the year supply.

The terminal will receive fuel through 1,069 km length
Paradip-Raipur-Ranchi pipeline at an investment of Rs 1,100 crore, official sources said.

Pradhan also dedicated to the national IOCL’s terminal at Jatni in the presence of Bargarh MP Prabhas Kumar Singh, Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das, Brajarajnagar MLA Radharani Panda, IOCL chairman Sanjiv Singh, among others. He praised the projects, referring to the contribution to the success of the economic development plans for eastern India of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “These new facilities will further strengthen storage and distribution of petroleum products in Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh,” he noted.

Pradhan said more than 22,000 LPG connections have been distributed to BPL families in Jharsuguda district under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. He proposed for availability of natural gas in Jharsuguda district through pipeline which will be connecting to Dhamra Natural Gas Regasification plant.

An official source said integration of the Paradip refinery with Jatni and Jharsuguda oil terminals through Paradip-Raipur-Ranchi pipeline in Odisha will be an enabler for faster evacuation of petroleum products from Paradip refinery. The Paradip-Raipur-Ranchi pipeline is further connected to Ranchi oil terminal of Jharkhand and Korba and Raipur oil terminals of Chhattisgarh. The total project cost for these projects is about Rs 2800 crore. These facilities will aid in meeting the growing demand of petroleum products leading to faster development of the region.
