Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the much-awaited Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supply system at NALCO Nagar here on Friday.
In the first phase, GAIL started the supply of the environment-friendly PNG to 255 houses at NALCO Nagar and
Chandrasekharpur areas.
“The GAIL has plans to provide PNG connections to adjacent Jeevan Bima Colony and Maitri Vihar Colony covering a total of 1,000 houses in the near future. Assessment is also being done for PNG supply to leading hotels, hospitals and industrial units of the city,” GAIL Director (Projects) Ashutosh Karnatak had said.
The company has also decided to provided PNG connection to around 25,000 households in the twin cities by December 2019 under the City Gas distribution Project (CGD), he had said, adding that the overall capital expenditure for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack CGD projects will be Rs 1,700 crore, of which Rs 400 crore will be invested in the next three to five years.
