Bhubaneswar: Union Minister from Odisha, Dharmendra Pradhan has urged the Centre to launch a direct flight between Jharsuguda and Mumbai.
In a letter to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Thursday, Dharmendra appreciated the “foresight” of the Narendra Modi-led government in introducing the UDAN scheme.
“The people of Odisha have immensely benefited by this novel scheme for setting up the Vir Surendra Sai (VSS) airport in Jharsuguda,” Dharmendra wrote. “Keeping in view the aspirations of the people of western Odisha, I request your personal intervention and initiative in launching a direct flight between Jharsuguda and Mumbai,” he added.
Dharmendra mentioned that the present flight operations by SpiceJet has benefited the people of western Odisha as well as helped the VSS airport to earn profits due to rise in passenger traffic.
“Besides, Spicejet has also launched direct flights from Jharsuguda to Hyderabad and Kolkata, thus creating a possibility of flight connectivity to the north-eastern and southern states,” he pointed out.
