Abu Dhabi: He may have failed to guide Chennai Super Kings to the IPL playoffs for the first time, but talismanic skipper MS Dhoni said he will be back in a yellow shirt next season.
After he won the toss in CSK’s last game of the season against Kings XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, the 39-year-old Dhoni was asked by TV commentator Danny Morrison whether it was his last game in a yellow shirt.
“Definitely not,” Dhoni replied promptly.
Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 this year, struggled to make an impact with the bat in the 13th edition of IPL. Many felt this could be his last season as a player, but the former India skipper obviously feels he has more to offer the team he has been involved with since the IPL’s inception in 2008.
CSK beat Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets to end their campaign with three wins, but that was not enough to ensure a top-four finish in the eight-team league.
