Bhubaneswar: Following the death of 10 persons due to diarrhoea outbreak and detection of cholera-causing bacteria in some patients in Odisha’s Rourkela, the state government has decided to send two senior officers to take stock of the situation.
According to sources, the decision was taken after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a review meeting on the situation with the officials of Health department in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
As per the decision, Health secretary and Urban Development secretary will visit Rourkela on Wednesday. They will hold discussion with Health officers and review the condition of the patients and test reports.
So far, 10 deaths have been reported in the Steel City while over 580 have been admitted to hospitals following symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting. While 287 patients are undergoing treatment at present, 240 others have been discharged after recovery, the sources said.
The toll, which stood at nine, mounted to 10 with reports about the death of an eight-year-old girl from Tilaknagar on the day.
