New Delhi: Just before noon on Sunday, Jairam Ramesh took to social media platform X to take a jibe at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a BJP ally in the NDA-run Central government.
He pointed out that YSRCP demanded special category status for Andhra Pradesh at the all-party meeting of floor leaders chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, but “strangely” the representative of TDP – ruling party in Andhra — kept quiet on the matter.
Hours later, the BJP accused Ramesh of ‘live-tweeting’ from the all-party meeting, questioning whether that’s ethical.
“There is a certain propriety and protocol one associates with these all party meetings. There is a frank and free exchange of ideas followed by media briefing. But a look at Jairam Ramesh’s timeline and it appears he was live tweeting the proceedings. Next time, the Congress should consider sending a more seasoned hand for these proceedings,” BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya wrote on X.
Narendra Modi clinched a third straight term as Prime Minister, but unlike in his previous terms, BJP didn’t gain majority of its own in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The saffron party, with 240 seats, had to depend on JD(U) and TDP to cross the majority mark of 272.
Both in Bihar and Andhra, special category status has been a long-standing demand.
But that is not the bone of contention. BJP’s issue is why Ramesh divulged details of the meeting, that too, while he was attending it.
