Raipur: Did actor Sunny Leone enroll for a Chhattisgarh government’s beneficiary scheme for economically weaker married women? Well, she hasn’t done it herself. But a man from Bastar forged documents in the actor’s name to fraudulently claim benefits under the scheme, which provides Rs 1,000 per month to women.
The ‘beneficiary,’ according to his application, was Sunny Leone, with her husband’s name recorded as Johnny Sins, an adult film star. After the officials noticed the discrepancy, Bastar Collector Haris S ordered the Women and Child Development Department to conduct a probe into the matter. He also ordered the freezing of related bank accounts, recovery of misappropriated funds, and the filing of an FIR against the accused, reported the India Today.
The accused was identified as Virendra Joshi. He had allegedly used fraudulent documents belonging to an Anganwadi worker, Vedmati Joshi, to register for the Mahatari Vandan Scheme. He is also accused of transferring the funds from the fake account into his own.
The records show that the man had been receiving money each month since March 2024. An FIR was filed against Virendra Joshi for defrauding the government and his bank account was frozen. Recovery proceedings have begun. Disciplinary action has also been recommended against Joshi and the supervisor responsible for the lapse, the report states.
