‘Dieselgate’ Scandal: Audi CEO Rupert Stadler Arrested

Munich: Volkswagen (VW) group, one of the largest automobile makers in the world, has confirmed the arrest of its sub-brand Audi’s CEO Rupert Stadler.

The arrest was made in connection to the emissions fraud committed by the parent company. This ‘dieselgate’ scandal had first come to the fore when Environment Protection Agency (EPA), USA, had issued a notice to VW for violating the clean air act. VW has been accused of using cheat software that showed lower emissions while testing under lab conditions but produced around 40 times nitrogen oxide pollutants in the real world.

According to reports, it was estimated that around 11 million diesel cars worldwide of the company were affected in the scandal. Recently, on June 13, VW group was fined 1 billion Euros by a German court over the same scandal.
