Cuttack: Their art does the speaking. Literally. Siblings Sriharsh and Sidharth Sukla from Cuttack cannot hear or speak. However, the siblings have not let their hearing and speech impairment since birth come in the way of their art.
Their parents came to know about the infirmity of the boys soon after their birth. No amount of medical intervention helped.
As they grew older, the boys took inspiration from their mother and took up painting. Having earned praise for their amazing talent in childhood, they enrolled for a degree in art at BK College of Art and Craft.
Years of practice later, the brothers steadily established themselves as top class painters and were even conferred the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi award. They have also been honoured by various organisations in India and America.
“I take up Pattachitra as it is unique and different from other paintings. It is very difficult but I learnt it gradually and am happy with it now,” said Sidharth through sign language.
