Mumbai: In an era when moviemakers want to mint money by remaking old blockbusters, veteran Bollywood actress Sairu Banu feels that the Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Shakti’ shouldn’t be remade.
In an interview to The Times of India, Saira candidly said that no one can play the roles of Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan in the remake of ‘Shakti’.
When asked about her views on a remake of ‘Shakti’, Saira said, “What! Is it really happening? Such classics shouldn’t be touch at all. How can you have people standing in for Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan who have so much of an aura and grace?
“I remember Kamal Amrohi wanted to remake my mother’s film ‘Pukar’ wherein she had played Nur Jahan. Sohrab Modi had decided to produce the remake. They had come home to ask Dilip saab and me to play Nur Jahan and Jehangir. Dilip saab explained to them clearly that ‘senior actors ka ek mukaam hota hai aur hamari rai yeh hai ki in an effort to remake ‘Pukaar’, aap is film ko haath na lagaye’,” she said, sharing an old incident.
Meanwhile, talking about Dilip Kumar’s health, she informed that he is not as fit as a fiddle. His immunity is low and he can barely manage to walk from the bedroom till the hall and back.
Among the celebrities who are still in touch with the legendary actor and keep enquiring about his well-being include Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Priyanka Chopra, Salim Khan.
The veteran actress signed out by saying, “It is out of love and not duress that I look after Dilip saab. I am not looking for praises to be called a devoted wife. Just to touch him and cuddle him is the world’s best thing that’s happening to me. I adore him and he is my breath itself.”
