Bhubaneswar: Hockey legend Dilip Tirkey inaugurated the inaugural 5-day sports meet of SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) here on Thursday.
Titled ‘Sumumnoya’, the sports meet will feature cricket, volleyball, badminton, 100 metre race, tug of war, three-legged race, lemon spoon, carrom and musical chairs.
Tirkey, the Hockey India president, said sports help people to keep fit and it was necessary for the youth to strive in this direction.
He felt such a meet will keep the hospital personnel including doctors, nurses and paramedics fit and also promote team spirit.
SUMUM’s CEO Dr Swetapadma Dash said it was the first time that any corporate hospital in Odisha had organised such an event for its employees, and will promote relationship and build camaraderie among them.
The emplyees have been divided into 10 teams — Arora Avengers, Phonex Phantoms, Fusion Force, Celestial Crushers, Zenith Zilts, Nebula Nomads, Galaxy Gladiators, Quantum Quashers, Swift Strikers and Rogue Riders.
The team jerseys were unveiled during the opening ceremony after which the participants took oath.
SUMUM’s Chief of Medical Services Brig. (Dr) Biraj Mohan Mishra, Medical Superintendent Dr Prasanta Kumar Panda, departmental heads, doctors, nurses and other employees were present at the inaugural function.
