New Delhi: Jharsuguda Airport has witnessed an 18 per cent decline in passenger movement in July. The withdrawal of the Jharsuguda-Delhi flight every Monday is being seen as one of the reasons for the drop in traffic.
In July, 16,000 passengers travelled through the airport as against 19,000 in June, the Airport Authority of India said in a statement.
While SpiceJet’s decision to withdraw the Jharsuguda-Delhi flight every Monday was cited as one of the possible reasons, inclement weather leading to cancellations was cited as another reason for the decline in passenger traffic.
The statement, though, added that the dip in passenger movement during monsoon was natural in the aviation sector.
On an average, over 525 passengers transit through Jharsuguda Airport. So far, over 59,000 passengers have travelled to various destinations served by Spicejet and Alliance Air from Jharsuguda.
