Dip In Temperature From 2nd Week Of November, Harsher January For Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The mornings are already mildly chilly in Odisha and the IMD forecast of a colder winter this year due to a weak La Nina phenomenon fails to provide any warmth.

While director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas, informed the media on Wednesday about a gradual fall in the day and night temperature from October 31, scientist Umasankar Das said that the temperature is likely to start dipping from the second week of November.

La Nina phenomenon is favourable for cold wave conditions.

Director of Centre of Environment and Climate (CEC) Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu told TNIE that La Nina produces a more north-south low-pressure system which brings in Siberian air and the cold wave that can extend much further south.

Sahu further said that December will witness below normal temperature. “In the last two years, Odisha has experienced colder winters under the influence of the jet stream. This season is likely be colder due to La Nina condition and jet stream. January is expected to be harsher,” he was quoted as saying by the daily.
