Baripada: A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing to death the disabled daughter of his wife’s paramour at Sargada panchayat within Gorumahisani police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj.
The accused has been identified as Repa Murmu of Moroda village. He killed the daughter of neighbour Krushna Chandra Giri in an act of revenge since his wife Sumita Murmu had run away with him six months ago.
According to sources, the accused had married Sumita four years back as per tribal rituals and the families of Repa and Krushna shared a good relationship as neighbours. However, Krushna started an extra-marital affair with Sumita despite having a wife and daughter. The accused felt humiliated when Sumita ran away with Krushna and started to live in his house.
Rep had long been waiting to avenge this humiliation.
On Monday, he attacked the girl, who was alone at home since Krushna along with his wife and Sumita had gone to the field, with a kitchen knife around 11 am. Though he had rushed back home, a villager spotted him holding the blood-stained knife and raised an alarm. The girl was later found lying dead in a pool of blood.
Rairangpur SDPO Gokulananda Sahoo said the girl’s body has been seized and sent for postmortem. A case has also been registered under Section 302 of the IPC, he added.
