Puri: The dismantling process of the chariots of sibling deities of Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri town began on Sunday.
After the completion of Rath Yatra of the deities, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabahdra and Devi Subhadra, their three chariots were kept under protection in front of Singhadwara (lions gate) of the temple. The chariots have been barricaded for bringing out the wood and other materials from the chariots.
As per the tradition, the Bhoi servitors under the supervision of Biswakarma Maharana will dismantle the chariots. First ‘Darpadalana’ chariot of Devi Subhadra will be dismantled and it will be followed by ‘Taladhwaja’ of Lord Balabhadra and ‘Nandighosa’ of Lord Jagannath.
“Around 10 servitors have been engaged in the dismantling work which was started today. Normally, it takes 7-8 days to completely dismantle the three chariots,” said Bhoi Sardar (head of the servitors).
He further said after dismantling the chariots, they would hand over the wood to Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). The wood would be used for preparation of cooked prasad of the Lords, he added.
