Berhampur: Police on Friday arrested Santosh Kumar Sethy (34), a dismissed army jawan, for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 1.25 lakh by promising a clerical job in Army Air Defence College at Gopalpur in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Police swung into action after the woman, a resident of Park Street at Chattrapur, filed a complaint in this regard on January 22.
According to sources, Sethy came in contact with the woman about two months ago and introduced himself as an army jawan working at the training academy. He developed a friendship with her and allured her with a promise to get her a job there.
Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said that the accused, who previously served in the Indian Army, was dismissed from service due to his notorious activities. “He was also arrested earlier in two cases of cheating and theft and was out on bail,” he said.
Shetty has been booked under Sections 419/420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing the person) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and forwarded to court.
