An Air France flight travelling from Paris to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing at Sofia airport in Bulgaria on Friday evening (8.30 pm IST) because of a disruptive Indian passenger.
A Bulgarian National Investigation Agency official informed on Saturday that the Indian citizen started misbehaving soon after the flight took off from Paris. He quarrelled with fellow passengers, assaulted a flight attendant and knocked on the cockpit door.
The aggressive behaviour of the man, whose name was not revealed, prompted the pilot to seek an emergency landing.
On landing at Sofia, the offender was taken off the aircraft and charged with endangering flight safety. He could be sentenced up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.
Thereafter, the plane resumed its journey to New Delhi.
“We are investigating his action and motive,” the Bulgarian official told reporters.
