Bhubaneswar: At the state-level ceremony for observance of World Population Day held on Tuesday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena awarded Nuapada, Malkangiri and Gajpati as best three districts for family planning performance on sterilisation operation during 2016-17 and Rayagada, Koraput and Nuapada districts for best performance in conducting vasectomy operation during 2016-17. Koraput and Malkangiri districts were adjudged the best in providing quality family planning services and Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts in PPIUCD insertions during the same period.
Similarly, the contribution of Dr. Rabindra Nath Mishra of Jajpur district and Dr. Sujnanendra Mishra of Balangir in conducting Minilap operation during WPF-2016 was acknowledged. Among others, health workers, ASHAs, surgeons, ANM and NGOs from 14 districts were also felicitated on the occasion for their inspiring performance in the sector.
Basing on this year’s global theme ‘Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations’, the state has launched ‘Population Stabilisation Fortnight’ or ‘Janasankhya Sthirata Pakshya’ from July 11 to 24 preceded by a ‘Mobilisation Fortnight’ from June 27 to July 10.
