Angul: A woman, allegedly ditched by her husband, sat on a dharna in front of her in-laws’ house, seeking justice in Odisha’s Angul district.
According to sources, the woman Jyoshna Sahoo got married to Manas Barik in a court eight months back and both lived in a rented house for some days upon her in-laws’ refusal to accept their relationship. After a few days, Barik left her at the rented house and deserted her.
Barik’s family accepted her and took her along with them after a case was registered under section 498 of IPC ( Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) at Angul Town Police Station.
However, Joshna was allegedly beaten up by her in-laws’ and thrown out of the house around 15-20 days ago after she lived there for only four months. She also alleged that her in-laws had planned and hired somebody to sexually assault her at the rented house.
Even though she lodged a complaint again with the police, and went to the Superintendent of police (SP), and district collector, she alleged that she did not get any justice and no action was initiated. Hence, she staged a dharna seeking acceptance as a daughter-in-law.
“I want justice. Previously, my parents had deserted me and now my in-laws have also refused to accept me. I have no family support to fight for my rights,” said Jyoshna.
Jyoshna further alleged that her husband left her at the house alone without paying off the rent. “My husband also looted a shop. His parents have locked him up inside the house and not letting me have any conversation with him,” she said.
