Divorce Case: Varsha Appears Undergoes Cross-Examination At Family Court In Cuttack

Cuttack: Odia actress Varsha Priyadarshini on Tuesday appeared before the Family Court in Odisha’s Cuttack for cross-examination in the divorce petition filed by her husband and actor Anubhav Mohanty.

Speaking to media persons near the court, Varsha’s advocate said as per the date fixed by the court for hearing of the case, Varsha came to the court. She was questioned by Anubhav’s lawyer for nearly one hour. “Varsha totally cooperated with the court proceedings and answered all the questions confidently and honestly. Anubhav’s lawyer asked some questions out of the pleading and we raised objections. The court also upheld it,” he said.

Admitting about those questions, Anubhav’s lawyer told the media that it is a very sensitive case and such questions will crop up during cross-examination. “But we respect the privacy of Varsha and tried to keep the questions strictly to the case. The question related to their conjugal life. Since Anubhav has claimed that he and Varsha did not lead normal life of a husband and wife, we asked questions about it,” she added.

When asked how long the case would continue, she said, “Today the examination could not continue long as it was a morning court and Varsha appeared in the court late. So the hearing lasted for 30-40 minutes. I am confident that if we are allowed hearing for long duration of 1 to 2 hours, we can complete the questioning in one to two sittings.”

Anubhav, who is also Kendrapada MP of BJD, had filed the divorce petition in a New Delhi court. Later, the case was transferred to the Family Court in Cuttack on the direction of the Supreme Court. Varsha had appealed to the apex court to transfer the case from Delhi to Cuttack on the ground that she was staying in Odisha city.
