Kochi: In an unusual move, a man divorced her wife through WhatsApp!
A woman from Dakshina Kannada district has lodged a complaint at Sullia police station alleging that her husband gave triple talaq over the instant messaging and voice-over platform, reported PTI.
According to police, the accused Abdul Rasheed is employed overseas and has two daughters with the complainant.
Rasheed, who hails from Thrissur in Kerala, had married a woman, from Jayanagar in Dakshina Kannada district, seven years ago. Rasheed had taken his wife abroad two years ago. However, he left her behind in Sullia when she delivered their second child.
Police said the couple reportedly had some differences of late, but the issue was settled with the intervention of elderly people.
But now Rasheed has sought divorce through triple talaq over WhatsApp.
Kerala police are investigating the case.
Supreme Court had outlawed the system of triple talaq a few years ago, but the practice has continued.
