Baripada: In a tragic incident, a differently-abled girl and her brother drowned while after being swept away in a canal in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
According to information, the incident took place at Mahlarapada village under Khunta police station when the two were trying to cross the canal.
The girl, identified as Nandini Nayak, saw her brother Parameswar Nayak being swept away in the Naluha river canal near their home. She immediately jumped into the canal in an attempt to rescue him. However, both were swept away by the strong current and drowned.
On being informed, fire service personnel from Khunta rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from two different locations near the Karakachia bridge. The bodies were later handed over to the police for further steps.
