Bhubaneswar: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Metro rail project connecting Bhubaneswar Airport and Trishulia, Cuttack was submitted to the Odisha government on Wednesday.
As per the DPR, the first phase of the much awaited metro rail will cover a distance of around 26 kilometers and have as many as 20 stations.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was engaged with the responsibility of preparing the DPR. After conducting traffic survey, geo-technical investigation, topo-graphic survey, environmental & social impact assessments, DMRC completed the DPR preparation and submitted to Chief Secretary P K Jena in Bhubaneswar, official sources said.
The Phase-I of Bhubaneswar metro rail will cover Biju Patnaik Airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapujinagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vanivihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Pak, Phulapokhari and Trisulia Square, Cuttack covering a total length of 26 km with 20 stations.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had on April 1, this year sanctioned the metro rail project. The project will be later extended to Khurdha, Puri and other areas of Bhubaneswar & Cuttack city.
Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has been notified on August 3 and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & General Manager (Administration) have been appointed.
The areas to be covered include Biju Patnaik airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari and Trishulia Square (Cuttack).
