Bhubaneswar: The allegation of baby swapping in the Capital Hospital at Bhubaneswar has been proved false by the DNA test report.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said the police have received the report of the DNA test of complainant Pranakrushna Biswal, his wife and the baby girl handed over to them by the staff of the Capital Hospital.
Stating that the DNA report confirmed that the newborn girl belonged to the couple, the DCP said it has proved the allegation false.
In a complaint with the Hospital Director and the Capital Police Station, Pranakrushna had alleged that his family was initially informed about the birth of a baby boy after his wife went to labour room in the hospital on September 26. But later a girl child was handed over to them.
He demanded an investigation into the matter and refused to take the baby girl until the matter was settled. Following this, the hospital authorities ordered an investigation. After obtaining a court order, the samples of Pranakrushna, his wife and the baby were collected on Sunday and sent to the laboratory for test.
Director of the hospital Laxmidhar Sahoo had earlier said the 3-member committee, which was formed to probe the incident and any lapses on the part of the staff, had found that the woman had indeed delivered a girl child contrary to the allegation being made by her husband.
