Bhubaneswar: After a man brought allegation of child swapping in the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, a DNA test is now set to be conducted to ascertain the truth.
The complainant, identified as Pranakrushna Biswal, had alleged that a child swapping incident had taken place after his wife gave birth to a baby on September 26 in the Capital Hospital.
Following an order by the court, Pranakrushana, along with his wife and the child will undergo DNA test on Sunday to ascertain the truth. The test will establish whether the baby girl handed over to them is their biological child, sources said.
Samples will be collected and sent for conducting the DNA examination to the laboratory to know the truth. Pranakrushna has reportedly stated that he will accept test result.
It may be recalled that Pranakrushna had accused the health staff of the hospital of swapping his newborn baby, prompting authorities to order a probe into the matter.
He had filed a complaint with the Hospital Director and the Capital Police Station alleging that the family was initially informed about the birth of a baby boy but later a girl child was handed over. He also refused to take the baby until the matter was investigated properly.
Earlier, a female attendant of the hospital was suspended for allegedly giving false information to the family while handing over the newborn.
Director of the hospital Laxmidhar Sahoo had earlier said that the 3-member committee, which was formed to probe the incident and any lapses on the part of the staff, found that the woman had indeed delivered a girl child contrary to the allegation being made by her husband, Pranakrushna Biswal.
“The probe committee report was conveyed to the aggrieved party. Since they did not accept the report, the police were intimated about it,” he said, adding that steps may be taken for DNA test to ascertain the biological parents of the child.
