Doctor Assaulted In Odisha’s VIMSAR; Find Out Why

Sambalpur: A subordinate doctor at Odisha’s VIMSAR was allegedly manhandled by the family member of a 15-year old patient, who died during treatment in the hospital on Tuesday. Junior doctor Ananta Narayan Patra was in charge of the ICU where the patient, Farheen was undergoing treatment for rheumatic heart disease.

The mother of the deceased wanted to enter the ICU and on being stopped by the junior doctor, she assaulted him stating that her daughter died because of medical negligence at the hospital.

Following the assault, the junior doctor immediately informed the hospital superintendent Jayshree Dora and a complaint was filed with Burla police. Sabina Khatun was released by the police after interrogation.

Farheen Khatun, who hailed from Bisra, was brought to VIMSAR from IGH, Rourkela three days back. She was shifted to the ICU on Sunday evening after her condition became critical.

During a meeting of the law and order committee of VIMSAR, members of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) condemned the attack on their colleague. The association submitted a memorandum to the superintendent of the hospital demanding security for the doctors.

Head of JDA, Sanjeev Mishra said the government should take immediate steps to prevent such incidents in future.
