Ranchi: Five persons, including two doctors, were killed in a fierce fire at a private nursing home in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad early on Saturday.
Four among the deceased have been identified as medical establishment’s owner Dr Vikas Hazra, his wife Dr Prema Hazra, his nephew Sohan Khamari and domestic help Tara Devi.
According to reports, the incident took place around 2 am in the storeroom of the nursing home-cum-private house in Bank More area, around 170 km from Ranchi. “At least five people, including the owner and his wife, died due to suffocation following a fire in the storeroom. One person is also injured,” PTI quoted Dhanbad sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Prem Kumar Tiwary, as saying.
Nine people were also rescued by firefighters from the medical establishment.
Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, a short circuit is suspected to have triggered it.
