Bhadrak: A doctor at a Community Health Centre (CHC) reportedly fell prey to cyber fraud and lost Rs 75,000 in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
Dr Srimadhab Sethy, who is posted at Dhamnagar CHC, has lodged a complaint in this connection at Dhamnagar police station and also with the cyber police.
As per the complaint, the doctor received a phone call from an unknown number when he was treating patients at the hospital on Tuesday. The caller claimed to have known the doctor and said that one of his relatives was admitted to the hospital.
The caller further said that he is not able to send money to the account of his relative and hence he has sent Rs 75,000 to the doctor’s account. The caller requested the doctor to send the money to the number in the Google Pay screenshot that was sent to his WhatsApp.
The doctor sent the money without checking his account but later found after his duty that Rs 75,000 was not received in his account by the caller.
Realising that he had cheated, he lodged a complaint in this regard at Dhamnagar police station and with the cyber police. He admitted that he became a victim of cyber fraud due to his foolish act and negligence.
