Bhubaneswar: An Indian Rat snake was killed by a surgeon by mistake in his quarters here on Sunday.
According to sources, Dr Bhagaban Sahu, a surgery specialist staying in one of the doctors’ quarters in Unit VI, felt something moving inside his sofa. Guessing that a mouse may have gone inside by cutting the sofa cover, the doctor hit the moving bump with his walking stick.
Afterwards, when he felt the bump with his hands, he realised that it might not be a mouse and contacted Suvendu Mallick of the Snake Helpline.
Later Arun Baral, a member of the Snake Helpline came to the house and cut through the sofa to retrieve a dead Indian Rat snake.
“The snake may have gone inside the sofa following a mouse through a hole. While the mouse managed to escape, the snake got stuck inside,” Mallick said.
