Khurda: Panic gripped Khurda town after a doctor and a staff of a medicine shop were shot at by two miscreants on Sunday evening.
According to reports, Manas Ranjan Das, a paediatrician, was examining patients at a clinic inside a medicine shop when two miscreants reached the place on a bike and suddenly opened three rounds of fire at Das and Krushna Chandra Sahu, owner of the medicine shop. The miscreants fled the area soon after the incident.
Hearing the gunshot, the locals informed the Town Police who rushed them to a private nursing home in Bhubaneswar where their condition is stated to be critical.
Following information, Khurda SP Ajay Pratap Swain arrived at the medicine shop with a scientific team for an on-the-spot investigation.
Talking to the media, the SP said that the CCTV footage shows the entry of two persons inside the clinic while one of them is seen firing at the doctor. “This is the first incident in Khurda where a doctor has been shot at. We have taken up this case seriously. A manhunt has been launched while all entry and exit points of Khurda town have been sealed to nab the assailants,” he added.
