Mainpuri: An elderly woman died of a heart attack while the on-duty doctor was allegedly watching Instagram reels on his phone at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri on Tuesday, reported the India Today.
The incident reportedly took place at Maharaja Tej Singh District Hospital. The entire incident, which has sparked outrage amongst the patient’s family members, was recorded on CCTV. The 60-year-old woman, Pravesh Kumari, complained of severe chest pain. Her son, Gurusharan Singh, took her to the district hospital. Dr Adarsh Sengar was on duty when the patient had arrived, the family members alleged.
Gurusharan has alleged that the doctor kept watching reels on Instagram and Facebook despite repeated requests for help. The doctor allegedly instructed the nursing staff to attend to the patient.
“When my mother’s condition worsened, we created a scene out of desperation. Annoyed, Dr Sengar finally got up but, instead of helping, he slapped me in frustration. By then, my mother had already died,” Gurusharan told to India Today.
A heavy police force was deployed at the hospital. The hospital authorities said CCTV footage was being checked. Meanwhile, police have started an enquiry.
