New Delhi: Resident doctors of Kasturba Hospital in Delhi have threatened to resign en masse in protest against alleged non-payment of salaries for the last three months.
“As this is not the right time to go on a strike, so we have decided to tender mass resignations. We have not stopped giving our services. If the hospital is not able to give us salaries, then we would like to give our services in other hospitals.”
In a letter to the hospital’s Additional Medical Superintendent on Wednesday, the doctors wrote, “As this is not the right time to go on a strike, so we have decided to tender mass resignations. We have not stopped giving our services. If the hospital is not able to give us salaries, then we would like to give our services in other hospitals.”
The letter was signed by Dr Sunil Kumar, the president of the Resident Doctors’ Association of Kasturba Hospital.
“We are afraid that if we don’t get paid by June 16, we will have to opt for mass resignation,” news agency ANI quoted the letter as saying.
On its part, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), which runs the hospital, said salaries of the doctors were being held because of paucity of funds.
NDMC standing committee chairman Jai Prakash said the civic body was unable to generate its own revenue as property tax collection and parking charges were hit during the lockdown.
He said talks were on with the doctors to dissuade them. “In the given situation, constant efforts are being made to arrange for salaries,” he added.
Last month, the doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital, also run by NDMC, had also alleged of not receiving salaries for three months.
