Bhubaneswar: The doctors of Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar have given a new lease of life to pre-mature born triplets after sustained efforts for three months.
According to hospital sources, the three babies were delivered pre-mature by a woman, belonging to Balugaon in Khurda district, 28 months after conception. The woman had conceived through in-vertigo fertilisation (IVF) in the IMS and SUM Hospital.
The triplets were underweight at the time of their birth. While two of them weighed 1 kg each, another measured 800 gram. As their condition was also critical, the doctors admitted them in Neonatal ICU and started the treatment, said Prof Debasish Nanda, the head of the department.
The babies were kept on invasive ventilation in the NICU for a long time and then non-invasive ventilation for three months. Due to consistent and careful treatment by the doctors and staff, the babies recovered and their condition was normal, said Dr Nanda.
Dr Nanda was assisted by several other doctors and nurses of the hospital in their efforts to save the triplets.
