Documentary On Surgery Of Jaga-Kalia Twins On Nat Geo Channel Soon

New Delhi: The world famous National Geographic Channel (NGC) is all set to telecast a documentary on the successful surgery of Jaga-Kalia twins of Odisha’s Kandhamal district very soon.

The documentary will showcase the condition of the conjoined twins before the surgery, the mode of surgery conducted by a team of expert surgeons of the All Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here and their health after they were separated.

AIIMS sources said a team of NGC have recently completed the shooting of a 45-minute documentary on the conjoined twins.

The surgery of the conjoined twins, a landmark achievement by the Indian doctors in the medical science, has found place in leading medical research journals all over the world.

Sources said the AIIMS authorities are making efforts to put this rare surgery of the conjoined twins in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The craniopagus twins (joined at the head) were separated after an 11-hour surgery conducted by a special team of doctors, comprising 20 surgeons, at AIIMS on October 25, 2017.

The Odisha government had provided Rs 1 crore financial assistance while Kandhamal administration gave Rs 1 lakh for their surgery. The Kandhamal Collector had also requested all government employees to donate a day’s salary for their treatment. Apart from this, the state Health department had also assured to facilitate their treatment and bear all the expenses of the family at AIIMS.
