Rourkela: Tension gripped Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) after a body at the mortuary of the premier health facility was found mutilated by a stray dog on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Jadav (40), a resident of Gopabandhupali. He had died after being hit by an SUV at Malgodam under Udit Nagar police limits of Rourkela on December 9. His body was preserved in the mortuary as action was pending against the vehicle involved in the accident.
When his family members came to take possession of the body on Sunday morning, they were outraged to find that a dog had eaten the corpse’s face. Some people had reportedly seen a stray dog coming out of the mortuary. Friends and locals soon rushed to the scene. They were pacified after Tehsildar and senior police officers promised to investigate the case and take necessary action against the erring employee.
Superintendent of the hospital Jagdish Barik said a team has been formed to probe the incident. Steps will be taken to prevent reoccurrences of such incidents at the hospital, he assured.
According to the latest report, the body has been handed over to the family members after postmortem.
