Bhawanipatna: A 12-year-old girl’s right arm was severed when her scarp got entangled in the wheel of a moving motorcycle on NH-26 near Utkela under Kesinga police limits in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Anjali Sahu of Mangalpur village under Jaipatna police limits.
According to sources, the incident took place when the girl was riding pillion on the motorcycle with her father and her scarf got entangled in the rear wheel of the two-wheeler. As she attempted to free her scarp, her hand got pulled into the wheel’s ride and got severed as the motorcycle was still moving.
If this was not enough, a stray dog appeared from nowhere and ran off with the severed hand as the father was trying to pull it out of the wheel. Locals later chased the canine and retrieved the severed hand. The girl was then rushed to district headquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna and later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, as her condition deteriorated due to excess blood loss.
