Washington: As Iran’s attack on Israel seems inevitable, the entire world prays that another war can be avoided.
Twelve days after Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s consulate in Syria killed a senior commander and other officials, Iran is bracing for revenge.
Even Joe Biden said on Friday that he expected Iran to attack Israel “sooner, rather than later” without sharing detailed security-related intel information.
But for the second time in three days, the US President issued a strong warning to Iran.
“Don’t (attack),” Biden said sternly, reiterating America’s commitment to defend its ally Israel.
“We are devoted to the defence of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” Biden told newspersons at the White House.
There have been reports that Iran has readied over 100 cruise missiles and as many drones to target military installations in Israel, ABC News and CBS News reported, citing US officials.
The attack could be carried out by Iranian forces and Iran-supported proxies.
Iran, however, has hinted that its response to the April 1 airstrikes won’t be done hastily and will be carried out in such a manner to avoid major escalation. The message was conveyed by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian to the US during a recent visit to Oman, Reuters reported.
On Friday, the US military repositioned two destroyers in the Middle East to help defend Israel and American forces in case Iran did launch the anticipated attack, The Wall Street Journal reported. While one destroyer was already in the region, a second was redirected.
A number of countries, including India, have issued travel advisories to their citizens and embassy officials in Israel keeping in mind the Iranian threat.
