Bhubaneswar: With three Jamaat members testing positive for coronavirus, Odisha DGP Abhay on Saturday warned people against spreading malicious information on social media, which may create communal discord.
“Law will come down heavily on such persons,” he said.
During the press briefing, the DGP further said that the first day of the 48-hour shutdown was successful. “So far, implementation of shutdown has been a success. I thank police and other personnel for their tireless efforts,” he said.
Police, however, were forced to take action against some lawbreakers. “As on today, over 2700 cases have been registered for lockdown violations, 2,400 arrested and 400 vehicles seized,” he said.
Government’s Chief Spokesperson on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi said that people using social media should be cautious about what they post. “If they misuse the medium especially on any matter related to coronavirus, it won’t take us long to trace their digital footprints and take action against them,” he added.
