Jharsuguda: Chhattisgarh Police have detained the driver of arrested ex-MLA Anup Sai in connection with the brutal murder of Kalpana Das (32) and her 14-year-old daughter inside a forest at Hamirpur on May 7, 2016.

The driver, identified as Bardhan Toppo, was picked up by a team of Raigarh police from his residence late on Friday. He is currently being interrogated at an undisclosed location.

Raigarh SP Santosh Singh, in a press meet on Friday, had said that Sai had named his driver during his interrogation that lasted for over 18 hours.

Some locals in Hamirpur area had seen Toppo in the locality three months ago, the SP had added.

Singh further said the double murder accused will soon be taken on remand. “We will pray the court to allow us to take the accused on remand for further interrogation and to conduct his Narco test,” he added.

Following his ‘confession’ and arrest, the expelled BJD leader was sent to a jail in Raigarh on Friday evening.
