India pacer Mohammed Shami has been charged under IPC 498A and 354A for domestic violence and sexual harassment respectively, news agency ANI said in a tweet on Thursday.
With the ICC World Cup 2019 slated for May, the chargesheet has come as a major blow for the India pacer. Shami was in Team India’s ODI squad, which lost the final international assignment ahead of the World Cup against Australia 2-3.
Kolkata police submitted the chargesheet against Shami at Alipore court on Thursday.
On March 8, 2018, the cricketer’s wife Hasin Jahan lodged a complaint against him and his elder brother Hasib Ahmad. She accused her husband of infidelity and demanding dowry, which he had vehemently denied.
Shami and Jahan were married on April 7, 2014, and they have a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
