Doyen Of Classical Music Pandit Damodar Hota Cremated With State Honours In Puri

Puri: The last rites of eminent vocalist of Hindustani and Odissi classical music Pandit Damodar Hota were performed with state honours, here on Tuesday.

The music exponent’s elder son Shivashis Hota performed the rites by lighting the funeral pyre at Swargadwara. A guard of honour was presented by the district administration.

Earlier, Pandit Hota’s body was taken from his residence in Bhubaneswar to his ancestral home at Goudabada Sahi, here for his followers and music lovers to pay their last respect.

The younger brother of the classical vocalist, Shyam Sundar Hota, younger son Durgasish Hota, three daughters and other relatives besides Puri ADM Subash Chandra Nathsharma and Additional SP Prafulla Badajena were among other prominent persons from various fields present during the cremation.

Pandit Hota passed at the age of 87 following a cardiac arrest at his Bhubaneswar residence on February 5.
