Dozens Injured As Vehicle Rams Into Crowd Near Walk of Fame In East Hollywood

New York: An ‘unknown’ vehicle ploughed into a crowd in East Hollywood, Los Angeles, in the early hours of Saturday (around 4 pm IST), leaving at least 28 people injured.

Three people are in critical condition and six sustained serious injuries, AFP reported quoting officials of Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). Nineteen others were reported to be in ‘fair’ condition while undergoing treatment.

According to ABC News, initial investigation suggests the driver may have lost consciousness before barging his vehicle into a large crowd outside a nightclub.

The accident site is close to major Hollywood landmarks, including Sunset Boulevard and the Walk of Fame, the famed sidewalk featuring stars honouring icons of the film industry.

Pictures and videos from the site of the mishap are being circulated by eyewitnesses and shared widely on social media.

First responders, from the LAFD, fire department prioritised the seriousness of those injured and transported them to local hospitals for medical care and treatment.

LAFD officials said they are working closely with law enforcement personnel to ensure all those affected receive the care they need and to determine what exactly led to this violent episode in one of the city’s busy entertainment areas.
