Bhubaneswar: Protesting against allotment of plots to law minister Pratap Jena’s wife under discretionary quota (DQ), hundreds of activists of youth Congress staged demonstration at Master Canteen Square here on Tuesday. The activists later burnt the effigy of the minister.
“We demand immediate resignation of the law minister as his wife Daisy Jena has been served with a notice by the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) for availing a plot under the discretionary quota. The chief minister should intervene in the matter and instruct the minister to resign at the earliest,” a party activist said.
Following the violent protests, more than 20 Congress activists were detained by police.
The CDA recently issued show-cause notices to 40 beneficiaries, including the law minister’s wife, against allotment of land and plots to them under discretionary quota. They have been asked to respond to the notice by the end of this month.
